Trump CIA Director Nominee: "Enhanced" Interrogation Was Constitutional

Kansas Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo, Trump's nominee for the job of CIA Director, is on record asserting that so-called "enhanced interrogation" techniques were "within the law and within the constitution." Pompeo made his remarks in December 2014 when California Senator Dianne Feinstein released a Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA detention and interrogation. The report documented CIA use of torture including waterboarding, sleep deprivation, "rectal rehydration," and denial of medical care.

In September 2016, Pompeo spoke at the annual gathering of ACT! for America, which the Southern Poverty Law Center called "far and away the largest anti-Muslim group in America." Pompeo previously labeled Muslims who do not speak out against terrorist acts as "potentially complicit."

Pompeo also supports restoring NSA bulk data collection that was restricted by the USA Freedom Act, and expanding FBI access to "roving wiretaps" that, according to the American Bar Association, may violate the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution.

He is also an extreme opponent of abortion rights, having called Roe v. Wade "one of the worst decisions" of the Supreme Court, and co-sponsored a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.
